Strong roots in the metal industry
Outokummun Metalli Oy was established in 1980. In the early years, co-operation with Outokumpu Oy was close. Among other projects, Outokummun Metalli supplied the equipment for an experimental concentrating mill for studying black slate in Sotkamo, and designed, manufactured and installed the machinery and equipment for the Enonkoski mine and concentrating mill. This latter project took the company to a new level at a stroke – the order was worth one and a half times the company's turnover of the time. One of the most demanding projects of the late 1980s was the provision of the equipment for an experimental mineral technology laboratory for the Technical Research Centre of Finland in Outokumpu.
In 1984, Outokummun Metalli acquired product rights for a processor grapple and began product development of a harvester head.
That was also the start of ongoing co-operation with Rauma-Repola’s forestry machine group, today known as John Deere Forestry Oy. From 1986 Outokummun Metalli Oy manufactured steel LPG cylinders. Production was ceased in the 1990s, and the New Firo piece positioner equipment was purchased as a new product in 1991.
