Extensions and investments
In 2003 and 2004, production was centralised around our Sysmäjärvi plant in Outokumpu. A total of 2,200 square metres of new production premises were built. The old machine shop was renovated bringing the total production area to 3,700 square metres. A new office building was also constructed in Sysmäjärvi. The biggest investment in machinery in the company’s history was made during this extension work. New acquisitions included a robotic welding station with a turntable, a horizontal machining centre with six 800 metre pallets and a travelling column CNC planer-type milling machine.
In late 2007, the founder of the company and its long-time Managing Director Pekka Nevalainen took over the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors and Jarmo Paakkunainen was appointed the new Managing Director of Outokummun Metalli.
In 2008, the premises of Outokummun Metalli Oy were again extended. A 1,700 square metre extension was completed with a new assembly hall, powder painting shop as well as staff facilities and a canteen. After the extension, the total area of the Sysmäjärvi plant is about 5,800 square metres. A 2.5 million euro machinery and equipment investment programme was initiated in connection with this extension – in 2008, the company purchased a welding robot, a machining centre, a steel shot blasting machine and a powder painting shop.
